Where Could You Start?
The majority of starting assignments will be in the Global Business Services, where the bulk of technical development will occur. You may also have the opportunity to start within the Global Business Units and the Market Development Organizations. These assignments focus on building technical expertise and knowledge of the business, and involve hands-on delivery in the areas of application development, data management and infrastructure operations. Your technical skill growth will be in both specific technologies, as well as in best practices for developing, implementing and supporting them with excellence for a company of P&G’s scale. If assigned to the Global Business Services, you could manage the development and implementation of the company’s globally standard business applications, databases, information delivery tools and IT infrastructure. You could provide the work process reengineering and design, as well as the data and information system applications required by these global standard processes. Your technical expertise will also be critical in the engineering, implementation and support of workstation, midrange, mainframe and web-oriented computing platforms as well as local and wide-area telecommunications networks to provide the high quality, low cost technical services P&G requires. If assigned to a Global Business Unit, you will focus on understanding the Global Business Unit’s strategies and search for opportunities to leverage on IT’s capability. You could also be involved in the implementation and support of manufacturing plant systems or interactive marketing (i.e. brand websites, consumer relationship management) in the Global Business Unit. If assigned to the Market Development Organization, you could manage projects that improve business results by exploiting IT capability in business operations for P&G's customer teams, retail customers, marketing groups, and the organization itself. You will develop a thorough understanding of our customers systems, data, and information flow and define opportunities that link P&G with the customer. One such example is utilizing a retail customer's point-of-sale data to improve promotion forecasting and efficiency. Then, the transformation of understanding into knowledge and insight about the customer, the market, and the consumer will be done. This allows customer teams and marketing groups to gain a better understanding of their opportunities. You also lead implementation of systematic changes for our customer teams to support their plans of driving volume/reducing costs by leveraging information technology. You could manage the execution and support web enabling technology to enable organization to be more effective and efficient. Finally, you could manage the execution of the deployment and support of globally standard business applications, databases, information delivery tools and IT infrastructure developed by other business units. If assigned to the Corporate Function, you could provide Corporate-level IT Strategy and direction setting. You could be made responsible for the development and management of the overall IT infrastructure, application, data and security architecture. You could also be doing long-term technology engineering and industry “gate keeping” - providing a single “face” to the external technology industry. You could be providing leadership for the development and integration of P&G’s Knowledge assets.
