UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES - 1978 |
I joined P&G - Philippines in May 15, 1978. I was assigned as Technical Brand Manager in the Product Development Department. I am now the Vice President of Market and Customer Operations in ASEAN, Australasia and India and at the same time the General Manager of Procter & Gamble Philippines. I started my career as a product researcher, with responsibilities primarily in developing the consumer and technical understanding to improve the Company’s detergent products. Four years later, I was sent for further training in Cincinnati, Ohio, first at the Winton Hill Technical Center and later at the Sharon Woods Technical Center. I stayed in Cincinnati for about two and a half years. I was sent back to Manila in January 1985 but was assigned to Taiwan in September of the same year as head of the Product Supply Department consisting of Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing and Distribution. In 1990, I left the technical field and learned the Marketing side of P&G business. I started my Marketing training in 1991. In 1992, I was appointed as one of the Category Managers in the Advertising Department of the Philippine operation. In March 1995, I became the first Filipino General Manager of Procter & Gamble Philippines. In March 1998, I became Vice President – Philippines and ASEAN, Australia and India Feminine Care with continued country responsibility for Philippines. Last July 2000, I was named Vice President, Market and Customer Operations in ASEAN, Australasia and India, at the same time, General Manager of Procter & Gamble Philippines, Inc. Technical: Developed Crest for Kids and Head & Shoulders Menthol Business: Helped start up P&G Taiwan and grew it to a $200 Million Company in 7 years. - Led the Philippine business and doubled the volume and local Sales in the last 7 years. Grew market shares to #1 or #2 position in every category we competed in. Community: Negotiated on behalf of the Jesuits to get Ayala Land to donate 15 hectares of land and 120 Million Pesos for a new school.
What I like most about P&G:
1. The Purpose, Values and Principles of P&G. Particularly - Integrity, Passion for Winning and Caring for Employees.
2. The P&G People are the best in the world.
What I think could be better at P&G:
The size . . . it is too big. Difficult to get things done. Too many “stakeholders” in every major decision.
