A Brief History of P&G South Africa

P&G South Africa is one of the newest P&G subsidiaries. P&G chose to stay out of South Africa during apartheid as this runs counter to P&G values and principle. In the mid-1980s P&G acquired the Richardson Vicks company globally, and Richardson-Vicks had a sizeable business in South Africa. However again P&G chose not to operate in South Africa during apartheid and accordingly sold the business to local managers. This became Permark. When apartheid ended and Nelson Mandela was elected President, P&G entered the South African market by buying back Permark business. Overall business was doubled in the first year.

We market well known brands like Head and Shoulders, Pantene, Pampers, Always, Tampax, Oil of Olay, Vicks, Pringles, Old Spice and Hugo Boss. We have ambitious expansion plans, as our aim is to build a significant business in South Africa.

Our organization is also expanding rapidly to cope with our business plans and the competitive South African markets. We are committed to building a strong P&G South Africa, relying on the local talents and developing them via training and constantly increasing their challenges and responsibilities.
