Aamir Dogar - PAKISTAN - Systems Analyst

Aamir Dogar

"“Computers shouldn’t be unusable. You don’t need to know how to work a telephone switch to make a phone call, or how to use the Hoover Dam to take a shower, or how to work a nuclear-power plant to turn on the lights.”"

Job Title: Systems Analyst
Function: IT/Information & Decision Solutions
Department: Information Technology
University: Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences
Degree: Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering

Aamir H. Dogar, joined Procter & Gamble Pakistan after graduating as a Computer System Engineer from GIKI. That was just a year ago, 2001. Currently he is working as a Systems Analyst in Information Technology department. “Joining P&G was a not a dream for me, nor was it my childhood desire. It just came to me as a good opportunity and I took it like one who deserved it. That’s not just the end; it was rather a beginning of a challenging career. Challenging in terms of what I learnt, how I can use it, what P&G is all about, where can I play my role, what exactly taking ownership means and above all, how to survive in a competitive environment. Now imagine just one year in the company with all these responsibilities. I manage a sales system across 11 biggest cities in Pakistan, have trained more than 100 sales people, am responsible for automating the purchase department and that too not only in Pakistan but across the entire region and I was responsible in launching and promoting our web site (www.pg.com.pk). IT in P&G is not simply to make applications and run them. IT is as close to business as any other department. Our role is to stay close to other non-IT functions within the organization and to do whatever it takes to support the business. One of the things that every IT professional wants to do in life is to work hard and become a Project manager. In P&G, your life starts from that point onwards. One of the unique things about IT in P&G is that it’s not the technical strength of the person that matters; it’s the ability to use it for the business in the most effective manner. Living far from one’s hometown is sometimes a bit of a problem. But you don’t even think about it while you are at work, its just not possible when you are at your best in the type of environment P&G offers. On a personal front, I love traveling and within this short career I have already traveled across all the main cities in Pakistan, Europe and Middle East.

What I like most about P&G:

You, only YOU, are responsible for your project.
