Modupe Omueti - NIGERIA - Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

Modupe Omueti

Job Title: Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer
Function: Engineering
Department: Product Supply - Baby Care
University: Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (Great Ife)
Degree: BSc Electronic & Electrical Engineering

I am Modupe Omueti. I’m in my mid twenties and I received my primary education in Ibadan, secondary in Niger State and University in Ife - all in Nigeria. I am the last of three children born to late Dr. and Prof. (Mrs.) Omueti. I am from the Edo state in Nigeria. I once wanted to be a pediatrician but changed my mind soon because I didn’t like biology too much! Then I opted for engineering and electrical was my choice, which is why I am here today serving in the capacity of Electrical and Instrumentation Manager in P&G. During my studies my greatest wish was to be able to practice the theory I was studying and I am happy doing just that at P&G. My job is stressful but interesting because the line issues are different and require different actions. There is always something new to learn. A major proportion of it is analytical troubleshooting that could be frustrating at times when the rest of the organization needs you to deliver and you are not being able to do so. At other times it’s a lot of fun! The people that I work directly with are an intelligent and interesting bunch. Each person has his own peculiarities, and such differences make the team fun to work with. That however is just one part of the picture. Separately I also think that that the whole organization is made up of many different parts that have not yet been fully integrated. Sometimes it feels like separate nuclear families that are part of an extended family but don’t really relate to each other or see themselves as family. I think some work has to be done on that front. Everybody in PS for instance has to be able to reckon with everybody in CBD. Reaching a stage where all parts of P&G gel together to function in absolute harmony should be an aim for all of us at P&G West Africa as that will help us become a stronger and more efficient organization than ever before. One of the things I like best about working for P&G are the opportunities I get to handle major responsibilities at such an early stage in my career. And more importantly, I’m given the chance to learn from my mistakes so I can constantly improve. This is really a good way of developing your career and being the best in what you want to be. It’s one of the things P&G does best.
