Background:

My father came here from China and my mother is English-Canadian, so I grew up in the dual-culture household. I think I’m more Asian in my way of thinking and my social interaction than I am, say, Cincinnatian. That's where working at a company like P&G has really expanded my skill set: I grew up in an Asian style home, and at P&G I’m learning corporate-America culture and skills.  It's been fun and exciting, and I’ve experienced a lot of growth this way. And when I asked the company if it was possible to work in the San Francisco area, where my family wanted to live, P&G found a place for me there.

History:

  • Every employee must ask himself what makes PG the place he wants to stay for 30 years. For me, it usually has to do with enjoying my job, feeling part of something special, and feeling good about working here.
  • The company does a lot of career planning, so I had help in finding my future.  P&G is also a merit-based company when it comes to developing skills.
  • I believe that if you aren’t getting feedback from your manager, then you have to go in and ask for it.  I do coaching sessions on how to engage your managers and get serious input.
  • I also participate in the Asian Pacific lead team, which helps employees learn how to develop successful careers within the company culture. In addition, we sponsor candidates for job promotion, and we explore how to help the recruiting teams be more effective in attracting APA hires.
